Main Article Content
Abstract
Vladimir Putin, born in October 1952 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, emerged from humble beginnings shaped by a difficult familial history and the socio-political climate of the Soviet Union. This research examines Putin's trajectory from his early life, marked by the loss of siblings and a modest upbringing, to his education in law at Saint Petersburg State University. Following his graduation in 1975, Putin joined the KGB, undertaking significant roles in intelligence operations, including a notable assignment in East Germany during the late 1980s. His subsequent rise to political prominence began in Saint Petersburg, where he maneuvered through bureaucratic structures, ultimately leading to key positions within the Russian government. This study employs historical research methodology, focusing on primary sources and literature to trace Putin's career milestones, including his appointment as Prime Minister in 1999 and subsequent election as President in 2000. The findings highlight the complexities of Putin’s past as an intelligence officer and its impact on his political ascent, revealing the dual perceptions of him as both a potential ally and a figure of concern in the realm of democracy and international relations.
