https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/357

The problem of environmental degradation and the decline in public ecological awareness requires a contextual, applicable, and sustainable educational approach. Integration of Environmental Education based on local wisdom, such as the Sadranan Kali tradition in Tlogomulyo Village, is one solution. This tradition is not only spiritual, but also contains values of environmental conservation, especially water resources. However, modernization has caused a shift in its ecological meaning, so it is necessary to re-examine the values of Environmental Education contained therein. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Environmental Education values in the Sadranan Kali tradition and examine the influence of local wisdom on the formation of environmental education values in the community. This study used a quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique on 91 respondents involved in the implementation of the tradition. Data were obtained through observation and distribution of Likert-scale questionnaires, then analyzed using the Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The results showed that the local wisdom of Sadranan Kali has a strong and significant influence on the formation of environmental education values. All indicators meet the validity and reliability criteria, and the research model is declared feasible and has good predictive capabilities.
Azzahra FatmawatiSriyanto

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/354

This study aims to reconstruct the history and missionary (da'wah) role of KH. Idun Syarifuddin in Sukabumi between 1953 and 2004. As a prominent local ulama, KH. Idun Syarifuddin significantly contributed to shaping the community's religious life by founding the Al-Islamiyyah Islamic Boarding School in 1953. This research employs the historical method, consisting of four main stages: heuristics through the collection of primary and oral sources; source criticism to test data authenticity; interpretation to synthesize historical facts; and historiography as the final writing stage. A qualitative approach is also used to explore the strategies and values applied in his mission. The findings reveal that KH. Idun Syarifuddin conducted a moderate mo derate, adaptive, and systematic da'wah amidst Indonesia's socio-political dynamics from the Old Order to the early Reformation era. His strategy encompassed three main dimensions: bil-lisan through lectures and regular study groups; bil-hal through moral exemplary in daily life; and bil-amal through tangible actions such as providing for orphans and the poor. His influence extended beyond the pesantren environment through formal roles as the Head of the Religious Affairs Office (KUA) and Chairman of the Fatwa Commission of the Sukabumi Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The impact of his da'wah was significant in transforming the socio-religious conditions of the Sukabumi community. He successfully changed areas previously known for vice and specific ideological influences into religious and harmonious environments. His missionary legacy persists through the continued existence of the pesantren, the regeneration of students who became preachers, and the values of humility and patience that live on in society. This study concludes that exemplary character and consistency were the primary keys to KH. Idun Syarifuddin's success in community development for over five decades.
Waode Andini SyamsurianiSuparmanDina Marliana

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/330

This study aims to re-examine Islamic civilization in the medieval period through a social history approach that positions society as the primary actor in the formation and transformation of civilization. The study departs from a critique of conventional historiography that tends to emphasize political elites and prominent intellectual figures, thereby overlooking the social dynamics that sustained Islamic civilization. This research employs a qualitative historical–social approach, using library research and historical document analysis as data collection techniques, drawing on relevant primary and secondary sources related to the Abbasid context. Data were analyzed using narrative analysis and historical content analysis to uncover social structures, intergroup relations, and everyday social practices of medieval Muslim society. The findings indicate that medieval Islamic civilization was supported by a relatively open social structure, an appreciation of knowledge as social capital, and the existence of intellectual institutions such as the Bait al-Hikmah, which functioned both as a social space and a symbol of civilization. Knowledge was not understood as an individual endeavor, but rather as a collective social practice integrated with power, economy, and culture. These findings affirm that the advancement of Islamic civilization was the result of complex and multilayered social processes, rather than merely the product of political dominance or exceptional individuals. Theoretically, this study contributes to Islamic civilization studies by reinforcing the relevance of the social history approach. Practically, the findings are relevant for the development of a more critical and contextualized approach to Islamic history education and open avenues for further research on the social dynamics of non-elite groups in Islamic history.
Engra Ramadhan IlahiNelmawarniEfendiKholidah

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/378

This study aims to identify the types of polysemy, analyze the process of meaning change, and describe the contextual interpretation of polysemous words in the English translation of Surah Al-Waqiah by Dr. Mustafa Khattab. The primary focus of this research is to explore how complex sacred text meanings are transferred into English without losing their theological essence through precise lexical choices. This research employs a qualitative textual analysis method with a semantic analysis approach. Data were collected through a documentation study of The Clear Quran translation and analyzed using the lexical relations theory by John I. Saeed and cognitive semantic theory. Especially the polysemy theory. John I. Saeed defines polysemy as a universal human language that words have a certain plasticity of meaning that allows speakers to change their meanings to suit different usage contexts. The data analysis process followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display in analysis tables, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal 10 significant polysemous data points, classified into two types: Regular Polysemy (9 data) and Irregular Polysemy (1 data). The dominance of Regular Polysemy indicates that the translator tends to use words with systematic and productive patterns of meaning shift in English, such as spatial and vertical metaphors. The identified processes of meaning change are dominated by metaphorical extension through image schemas of position and direction, such as right, left, foremost, and elevate, as well as metonymical shifts in describing natural phenomena. Regarding translation strategy, Dr. Mustafa Khattab utilizes a literal translation method supported by explicitation techniques through the use of brackets to maintain theological accuracy and minimize the risk of semantic loss. These findings confirm that the use of appropriate semantic devices can bridge the limitations of human language in describing the transcendental reality of Judgment Day. This research contributes to the semantic study of the Quran and provides insights into linguistic strategies for translating sacred texts into English for modern readers.
Feri Awaludin FirdausMahi M.HikmatFourus Huznatul Abqoriyyah

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/382

This research analyzes the transformation of hijab usage among Indonesian celebrities from 2001 to 2017. The primary issue addressed is the deconstruction of the hijab's image, which was initially perceived as rigid and a hindrance to professionalism during the New Order era, into a modern and emancipatory popular identity through the strategic role of public figures. The objective of this study is to map the phases of changes in hijab aesthetics and identify the driving factors that transformed this religious attribute into a symbol of international achievement. The methodology employed is the historical research method, encompassing four stages: heuristics through the collection of primary sources in the form of contemporary media clippings (Pikiran Rakyat, Galamedia) and oral sources (interview documentation), source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The analysis was conducted using Homi K. Bhabha’s theory of cultural hybridity to observe the emergence of a "Third Space" as a realm of negotiation between spiritual values and the aesthetics of the entertainment industry. The results indicate that the transformation was initiated by the pioneering actions of celebrities such as Inneke Koesherawati and Nella Regar in 2001, who navigated their identities amidst professional career risks. This development culminated in 2017 with Dian Pelangi’s achievements at New York Fashion Week, which historically marked the phase of the hijab's establishment as a globally recognized popular identity. This research concludes that celebrities act as agents of hybridity who create a 'Third Space,' a negotiation zone that successfully converges popular culture with religious values. The presence of this space destabilizes old narratives regarding the hijab, transforming it from marginal attire into a symbol of progress and professionalism for modern Muslim women in Indonesia’s public sphere.
Syahid Wizdan AlfakhrujiSulasmanFathia Lestari

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/329

Arabic digital literature has significant potential as both a popular medium and a discourse-shaping force, as seen on the X application through the account of Ahlam Mosteghanemi. This study aims to identify these two aspects through the use of conceptual metaphor theory proposed by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, including structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors. This research is qualitative in nature, employing a critical discourse approach. To analyze the meaning of literary texts, this study applies conceptual metaphor theory. This research used to read with note-taking techniques. The object of this research is a post by Ahlam Mosteghanemi on the X application dated December 22, 2025. The analysis involves identifying and classifying the use of conceptual metaphors in the selected post, as well as examining the data based on factors contributing to literary popularity. Furthermore, the data is critically analyzed through cognition and social context to uncover the author's ideology as reflected in the literary tweet. The results indicate that the literary text posted by Ahlam employs conceptual metaphor as a stylistic device. Metaphors in literary texts are universal in nature, allowing X users to interpret the text based on the implicit meanings conveyed in Ahlam’s writing. The use of conceptual metaphors in her literary tweets generates active responses from X users, contributing to the popularity of her ideas as the account owner. In addition, Ahlam’s literary tweets shape discourse through the use of conceptual metaphors in her posts.
Nur AfifahMohammad PribadiBaiq HikmatussofaMuhammad Reko

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/344

This study aims to analyze the dynamic role of BAZNAS Kota Bandung in responding to the social crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2021, particularly in empowering the community’s economy through zakat-based programs. This research employs a historical method with a descriptive-analytical approach, involving stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Data sources include official documents, program reports, institutional archives, and interviews with stakeholders and beneficiaries. The analysis is framed using Talcott Parsons’ AGIL theory and the concept of social stratification to examine the social functions of zakat institutions during crisis conditions. The findings reveal that BAZNAS Kota Bandung experienced significant role transformations throughout the pandemic. In the early phase, the institution prioritized emergency social assistance such as basic food distribution, cash aid, and healthcare support to sustain beneficiaries’ basic needs. Subsequently, zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS) distribution was conducted systematically with digital adaptations to ensure accurate targeting. In the later phase, BAZNAS implemented economic empowerment programs, including Z-Mart and Z-Chicken, as part of long-term recovery efforts. The Z-Mart program demonstrated more sustainable outcomes compared to Z-Chicken, which tended to be temporary due to limited mentoring and business adaptability challenges. Overall, this study concludes that the integration of social assistance, ZIS distribution, and economic empowerment programs produces complementary impacts in maintaining social stability and improving beneficiaries’ economic capacity. However, the effectiveness of these programs depends on appropriate program design and sustained institutional support
Muhammad Aufa RifqiMoeflich HasbullahUsman Supendi

Malay culture is an identity that reflects the values, traditions, and worldview of a community. With the advancement of information and communication technology, the Malay community now faces new challenges in preserving and maintaining its traditional values, especially in the South Sumatra region. This study aims to examine the dynamics of identity, culture, and customs of the South Sumatra Malay community in the digital age, as well as to explore how the process of adjustment between traditional and modern elements takes place. The research method used is descriptive-analytical with a qualitative approach, using Google search engines and several other literatures, as well as analysis of various secondary sources discussing Malay culture, social change, and the influence of digitalization. The results of the study show that digital development has brought significant changes to the patterns of interaction, communication, and the way the Malay community expresses its cultural identity. Digital technology plays an important role in cultural preservation through documentation, cultural tourism promotion, and online learning based on local wisdom. However, on the other hand, there are also challenges in the form of shifting values, commercialization of culture, and a decline in the interest of the younger generation in inheriting traditions. The Malay community in South Sumatra has shown a strong ability to adapt by utilizing digital media as a means of preserving customs, language, and traditional arts. Initiatives such as the revitalization of the Malay language, the organization of hybrid-based cultural festivals, and the digitization of traditional archives are concrete examples of cultural reconstruction efforts in the modern era. Therefore, digitization is not merely seen as a threat, but also as a strategic opportunity to strengthen identity and preserve the existence of Malay culture amid the tide of globalization.
Hana PertiwiCholidiMohammad SyawaludinAndy HariyonoNilawati

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/335

Traditional historiography such as Babad Lombok contains many cultures, one of which is about women. Babad Lombok contains the genealogy of the Prophet, the Menak in Lombok, and Islamization in Lombok. Through a philological and hermeneutic approach, the interpretation of Babad Lombok is mainly through the perspective of Muslim women. Islamization which was first carried out by Sunan Prapen made the Lombok Kingdom an Islamic Kingdom. Islam or not is shown through women who embrace Islam or not in this region. As a result of the women who did not convert to Islam, there was a war between Sunan Prapen and the Lombok community who had not embraced Islam until finally Lombok was divided into three parts. Furthermore, Islamization was carried out by Rangkesari as the king of Selaparang. Furthermore, Selaparang was made the capital of the Lombok Kingdom which had embraced Islam. Prabu Anom, Rangkesari's successor, made the Selaparang Kingdom in this case Lombok reach the peak of its glory. Princess Bayan became the person behind the glory carried out by Prabu Anom by doing good deeds by accepting polygamy carried out by her husband. Good deeds were carried out after there was a policy within oneself. This acceptance uses faith with knowledge so that the evidence speaks of the virtues he carried out for the Islamization carried out in the Kingdom of Lombok in the glory days of his time.
Haekal GhifariPepep Ipan SopianDedi SupriadiAsep Achmad HidayatSyahidah Qolbiya SakinahYan Nurcahya

https://e-jazirah.com/index.php/jazirah/article/view/338

This research departs from the fundamental question of how the Reconquista and the Inquisition operated not simply as military events or religious institutions, but as a structured project of power to eliminate Islamic identity from the social, cultural, and historical landscape of the Iberian Peninsula. Using a historical-critical approach combined with the analysis of power discourse in the production of historical narratives, this study shows that the post-1492 process of de-Islamization is a political strategy that is carried out systematically through the elimination of Islamic visual symbols, the destruction of Arabic-language intellectual treasures, and the rewriting of history within the framework of a Christian hegemonic narrative. The findings of the study indicate that the Inquisition functioned not only as a religious institution that oversaw the orthodoxy of the faith, but also as an ideological mechanism of the state to reset the boundaries of people's identities, beliefs, and collective memories. Through repressive practices against the Morisco community and institutionalized cultural censorship, the Inquisition reinforced the Reconquista agenda of consolidating the power of the Catholic monarchy and removing Islamic heritage from the public sphere as well as official historiography. Thus, the disappearance of the traces of Islam in Spain cannot be understood as a secondary effect of religious conflict, but rather as the essence of a consciously designed historical and cultural engineering. This conclusion confirms that post-Reconquista Spanish history needs to be read in the framework of power relations that not only construct the past, but also form the foundations of modern national identity
Siti MasykurohAgus Mahfudin Setiawan
