PERKEMBANGAN STASIUN PIRUSA 1987-1988

Abstract
The research is conducted based on Pirusa Station which began to be forgotten by the local people in Tasikmalaya. Whereas the station had been very deserving well in facilitating the transportation of sand to the capital city of Jakarta. The purpose of this study is to provide information about Pirusa Station which performed a major role in the construction of buildings during Orde Baru Period. The method used is the historical method using an interdisciplinary approach with economic aids. Economics as a science is to help revealing data and facts. The theory used in this research is the supply and demand theory. Field observation, interview, and literature study especially archives and relevant books are applied to find out data and facts. The results of the research show that this station was the largest sand bearer in Indonesia at that time. This is evidenced by the total volume of transported sand for one year (July 1987 - June 1988) is 428,251 m3, the monthly average is 36,600 m3 with a profit of IDR 4400 to IDR 7400 per m3 for the company. People around Pirusa Station also obtained economic benefits due to the opening of jobs. They were sand porters, sand diggers, truck drivers, and heavy equipment operators. In addition, local people earned advantage of many workers by opening food stalls around the station, they also illegally rode on the trains to travel from Bandung to Jakarta or vice versa for free.
